Beginning this week Marion city police will maintain a ’round the clock service. Leo Regier will take over the duties of day marshal and Lawrence Burnett will be on duty during the night.

W.M. (Bud) Pierce was elected president of the Marion Athletic Association Tuesday evening succeeding Ed Navrat. O.W. (Gus) Newlin was named vice president and Ed McClain was reelected secretary.

Memorial services were held at the Methodist church in Peabody Sunday for Brice Herbert, 7-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Herbert of Peabody and Marion County’s first polio fatality this year.

Mary Hannaford won first prize in the high school category of the annual Case & Son fire prevention essay contest. She received $7.50. Second prize and $5 was presented to Sarabel Wolf and third prize, $2.50, went to Ted Heath. Junior high winners were Rowena Olsen, 8th grade; Billie Jean Herbert, 7th grade; and Maurita Starkey, 6th. Each grade school student received $2.

Quite a number of cases of whooping cough have been reported to the county health officer during the past two weeks. Of the twelve known cases, eight are in Marion and two each in Lehigh and Hillsboro.

The last football game of the season for the Marion Warriors is against the Peabody Warriors is at 2:30 p.m. Thanksgiving afternoon at Marion Athletic Park.

Marion Community Athletic Association will sponsor a turkey shoot at the trap grounds on Walnut Street next Sunday afternoon. Prizes include dressed turkeys, bacon, and hams.
