In American history’s greatest political upset, Harry S Truman set all the dopesters back on their heels with a resounding victory Tuesday over Thomas E. Dewey, sweeping a Democratic House and Senate back into power.

The 7th grade class had a masquerade Halloween party Oct. 30 at the Wiebe home at 401 Walnut St.

An interesting sidelight of the sensational Gayer trial is the attention Marion is receiving from press of the nation. Pictured is an Associated Press wirephoto set temporarily installed in this newspaper’s office to transmit pictures of the trial all over the country.

Mr. and Mrs. Jonah Seifert announce the engagement of their daughter, Anita, to Mr. Virgil Weber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Weber, Hillsboro.

George H. Miser, city finance commissioner and former owner-manager of the Western Auto store here, will open a real estate and insurance agency office in Marion in the near future.

Mrs. Lloyd Davies and Ann and Oscar Davies entertained at a Halloween party Friday night at the Davies’ home on S. Roosevelt St. Pauline Best, 6th grade teacher, and Laurence Griggs won costume prizes.
