Al Richardson’s Novelty Shop changed ownership this week when he sold his popular gift, magazine, and confectionary store on S. 3rd St. to Mrs. Joe Thiel. The name will be changed to Fran’s Shop.
A tree-banding service instituted last week by the Chamber of Commerce has gone into high gear again this week. Hundreds of trees of the city are receiving treatment.
A kite-flying contest is planned for March 26 at Marion Country Club. The event, staged by the Kiwanis Club’s boys and girls committee, will feature contests between two groups, boys and girls younger than 12 and boys and girls 12 and older. Prizes will be awarded for both groups and in five different classes.
Almost every Sunday, weather permitting, four young men are busy helping rid the countryside of coyotes by aeroplane. Owners of the plane, both pilots, are Herman Bartel and Fred Domke of Marion. Their two air-going hunter friends are Marvin Kreutziger of Canada and Adolph Bartel of Hillsboro.
Junior Bledsoe was honored Saturday afternoon with a birthday party at his home. These boys attended: Mark Childs, Jimmie Christensen, Paul Ford, Laird Helmer, Greg Henry, Neil Hoopes, Junior Post, John Price, Laurence Priddle, Paul Schmersey, Tommy Shirley, Richard Vogel, and Eugene Waner.
