The building now occupied by Fred Lee and Son Furniture, commonly known as the Schmersey building, is being extensively redecorated with a new show window and other improvements.

Eight schools from the Cottonwood Valley League competed in a one-act play contest Thursday afternoon in Marion Municipal Auditorium.

The Marion production, directed by Phyllis Hagel, received a “superior” rating.

Cast members were Kathryn Popp, Richard Bredemeier, Laura Jane Bredemeier, John Newcomer, Roger Ireland, Mary Hannaford, and June Avery.

Josiah Good, 79, long time resident of Marion and former president of the State Bank of Commerce, died Wednesday evening at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

Advertised this week at Ed Sandwell’s Sanitary Market are T-bone or sirloin steak, 65 cents a pound; round steak, 69 cents a pound; and arm, rump, or chuck roast, 47 cents a pound.

A big day is in store for First Methodist Church of Marion when the congregation will observe the 81st anniversary of the local religious group Sunday.
