Hundreds of loads of rocky dirt from Riddle Quarries have been dumped a ravine on the north side of Main St. between McKibbin’s Cabinet Shop and physician C.R. Magee’s office. The fill will make a decided improvement and create a valuable business site directly across the street from the city park.

In a lengthy award session May 17 at Marion High School, Kathryn Popp was recognized as valedictorian of the class of 1950, and Max Merrill was honored with the Balfour Award.

Other special awards and scholarships went to Tim Burkholder, James Fruechting, Darlene Richmond, Verona Vinduska, and Nora Zeller.

Marion’s next telephone directory will be issued in book form and contain a Yellow Pages section similar to directories in larger cities. Marion has outgrown its card-type directory, according to L.R. Simpson, manager for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co.

Barbara McDaris was honored at a going-away party Tuesday afternoon. Carol Beth Miser was hostess. Guests included Ann Davies, Twila Hoopes, Wanda McDaris, Carolyn Merrill, Janet Priddle, Wanda Propp, Noretta Starkey, and Judy Thatch.
