8th-grade track teams win league

Marion athletes left their mark as champions May 13 at the Heart of America League middle school track meet.

The eighth grade boys and girls both won their divisions while the seventh grade girls’ and boys’ teams placed third and fourth in their respective divisions.

The eighth grade boys’ team won the most events, led by Jack Schneider, who won the 100, 200, and 400-meter races and long jump. Other individual winners were Corbin Wheeler in pole vault and 200-meter hurdles; Tyler Palic, discus; and Colin Williams, 3,200-meter.

The 4x200 and sprint medley relay teams of Jacob Vondenkamp, Logan Waner, Kolton Brewer, and Garrett Hoffner also took gold.

Kourtney Hansen won the high jump and long jump for the eighth grade girls, as well as Alli Molleker in pole vault and Lindsey Sigel in discus.

For the seventh grade girls, Michaela Regnier won pole vault and Meggan Frese won the 3,200. Evan Heidebrecht won triple jump in the seventh grade boys’ division, as well as Charlie Nordquist in discus.
