95th annual Hett family reunion held at lake

The 95th annual Hett reunion was at the Marion County Lake hall Aug. 11.

President Torey Hett gave a reading and led those who gathered in prayer. After lunch, Torey called the meeting to order. Old business was discussed, commemorative T-shirts were distributed — some of which were modeled — and the minutes and treasurer’s report were read.

While discussing new business, Torey noted Bill and Teresa Higgins sent the welcome banner. He said they hoped the Hetts would continue to use it each year.

Shirley Jo Hett agreed to serve as secretary for the coming year, and Evelyn Hett agreed to remain as treasurer. Everyone was then encouraged to go outside.

Torey and vice president Jarvis Whiteman had set up a game for all to play.

After 30 minutes of hillbilly golf, places and prizes were determined as follows: first place was Larry Ensey and second place was Dawn Hett. They will be serving as President and Vice President, respectively, for the coming year.

It was the first time family president and vice president positions were determined in such a way, Torey said. The family normally nominates by popular vote, but he said he and Whitman decided to stage the hillbilly golf tournament in effort to get the kids more involved.
