‘Luke’ Siebert

Laquetta Ray “Luke” Siebert was born on Sept. 26, 1937, in Oklahoma City to Helen (Peck) and Floyd Cunningham. She left this earth on June 6, 2015, in Bethesda Homes in Goessel with her husband of 41 years, Ed, by her side.

Luke grew up in Oklahoma City and attended Oklahoma City schools, graduating in 1955.

In 1973, Luke and Ed came to Kansas from Oklahoma and were married Nov. 10, 1973, in the Aulne church. Soon after their marriage they were joined by their children from Oklahoma. Ed’s children, Julie and Rick, and Luke’s son, Charles, and family made their home in Aulne.

Luke was a city girl, and it was a shock to her to come to a small town in Kansas, but she grew to love it here and made many friends.

In 1997, the couple moved to Marion, and Luke enjoyed living in town. She was proud of her home and spent many happy hours decorating, shopping with friends, tending to wildlife in the backyard, and tending her flowers.

She loved her neighbors and would walk the eight-block neighborhood daily, rain or shine, putting her neighbors’ morning papers on their porches, tucking small treats in for the holidays.

She loved small children and the elderly and enjoyed choosing special gifts and doing special deeds for people in her life.

Luke spent many happy hours working at Kingfisher’s Inn at Marion County Lake. Waitressing brought her joy, and her quick wit and happy smile made her a favorite with customers.

Her failing health brought her to Bethesda Home in Goessel, where she spent the last year and a half of her life and was lovingly visited daily by her husband, Ed.

Luke was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Joe Cunningham. She is survived by her husband, Ed, of the home; her children, Tracy (Lynn) Garrison of Edmond, Oklahoma; Charles (Cindy) Reece of Hillsboro; Rick (Kelly) Siebert of rural Allen; and Julie Ascencio of St. Peters, Missouri; her sister, Sue, of Oklahoma City; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services are pending and will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established with Marion City Library, 101 Library St., Marion KS 66861.
