‘Positive’ turns negative with meth, pot arrest

Ten months ago, she was the focus of a “Positive Connections” story on Wichita TV news.
This week, she’s an inmate in Marion County Jail, arrested on suspicion of possessing and distributing methamphetamine, possessing marijuana, and conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.
Monique D. Trigg, 28, Wichita, was featured last June on KSN News after Genesis Foundation for Fitness and Tennis donated beds to her family of five.
According to KSN’s story by anchor Emily Younger, Trigg and her children — Abriella, then 9; Kendrick Jr., 7; Roz Marie, 2; and Prince Tru, 1 — had recently moved to an apartment in south Wichita after staying at a domestic violence shelter for four months.
She also had been laid off from her job at Spirit Aerosystems.
Rather than let her kids continue to sleep on the floor, she contacted a school social worker and applied for aid.
The Genesis Foundation’s Beds for Kids program donated three beds and bedding after reviewing her application.
Friday, she and companion Rashawn J. Pleass, 26, also of Wichita, were stopped near Flying Eagle, formerly Johnson’s General Store, in Florence.
After police drug dog Karma sniffed air around the couple’s vehicle, deputies Matt Regier and Joshua Meliza searched it and seized what they reported to be illegal drugs and a firearm.
According to Sheriff Jeff Soyez, Pleass was jailed on suspicion of distributing methamphetamine, having no drug tax stamp, and driving while his license was suspended.
Trigg was jailed on suspicion of distributing meth and another controlled substance along with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Pleass remained in jail Tuesday in lieu of $10,000 surety bond. Trigg remained in jail in lieu of $5,000 surety bond.
