Rodeo, demolition derbys, inflatable houses to be at fair

Marion County Fair will feature more rodeos, several demolition derbies, and a variety of bouncy castles July 24 to 29 along with a compressed schedule of 4-H and agriculture events.
“We’ve got a lot of the same stuff happening that we do every year, but at the request of 4-H it’s happening on a more compact schedule,” Myron Regier, county fair president, said. “We also have four nights of rodeo this year. The co-ed ranch rodeo seems to becoming more popular.”
The co-ed ranch rodeo will be at 7 p.m. July 24 and July 25. Rodeo action continues at 8 p.m. July 26 and 27 along with mutton bustin’, and a calf scramble.
The fair’s “Country Pride, County Wide” parade will be at 6 p.m. July 28, followed by a truck and antique tractor pull at 7 p.m. and bouncy houses from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
“Through sponsorship it is very likely that the bouncy houses will be free,” Regier said. “They’re new this year. It looks like we’re going to have a castle, an obstacle course, one with slides, and other bouncy structures.”
A dodge ball tournament is planned for 2 to 4 p.m. July 29. A wet and wild children’s water event will be from 2:30 to 4 p.m., and a free kids pedal pull will be at 3 p.m. Power wheel, lawn mower, compact, and regular demolition derbies will begin at 7 p.m.
“I guess you could say they are back by popular demand,” Regier said.
