The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:
U.S. 77 near 140th Road
A deer was struck and killed at 6:03 p.m. Jan. 8, on U.S. 77 near 140th Road. Bethany Yvonna Olsen, 20, Wichita, was southbound in a 2007 Hyundai passenger car when the deer entered the highway and was struck. The driver was not injured.
500 block of West D Street, Hillsboro
Kenneth B. Carlson, 56, 413 N. Ash St., Hillsboro, was westbound in the 500 block of West D Street in a 2002 truck owned by the City of Hillsboro, P.O. Box N, Hillsboro, when it was struck in the rear by a 2000 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Calvin Leroy Nigh, 85, Strong City. The accident occurred at 10:10 a.m. Jan. 11, when the driver of the pickup truck was attempting a left turn from an alley onto D Street.
Edward Lynn Richert, 57, 314 N. Jefferson St., Hillsboro, was a passenger in the city truck. Betty Lou Nigh, 65, Strong City, was a passenger in the pickup. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.
Sunflower Road near 160th
Raelene Heitschmidt, 45, 515 Locust St., Marion, was southbound on Sunflower Road near 160th in a 2005 Honda passenger car at 7:10 a.m. Jan. 13, when a deer entered the road from an east ditch and ran into the driver’s side of the vehicle. The driver was not injured.
400 block of South Birch Street, Hillsboro
A 2004 Thomas, 31-passenger school bus, driven by Ronda B. Wiens, 51, 817 250th Road, Hillsboro, sideswiped a 1975 Chrysler passenger car that was legally parked in the 400 block of South Birch Street, Hillsboro, at 8 a.m. Jan. 14. The parked car was owned by Chris D. Frantz, 404 S. Birch St., Hillsboro. The accident occurred when the bus driver attempted to park near a curb so children would not have to walk on ice to board the bus.
The car was damaged on the driver’s side front fender and bumper. The bus, registered to USD 410, 104 E. Grand Ave., Hillsboro, was not damaged.
Occupants on the bus were Trinity Peterson, 5, and Samson Peterson, 5, of 722 Abilene St., Durham; Javier Cisneros, 3, 918 240th Road, Hillsboro; Dominic Bartel, 4, 2147 K-15, Hillsboro; and Verda Albrecht, 71, 834 U.S. 56, Hillsboro.
There were no injuries and less than $1,000 in damages.
