The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

201 S. Cedar, Marion:

Cody L. McPhail, 18, 604 E. Sherman, Marion, was backing from a drive at 201 S. Cedar, Marion, in a 1995 Mercury Cougar at 10:08 p.m. April 30, and did not see a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am parked in the driveway. The Mercury struck the rear of the Pontiac which was driven by Rodney D. Leshure, 317 S. Lincoln, Marion, and owned by Linda Church, of the same address. There were no injuries and less than $1,000, reported Marion Police Officer Clinton Jeffrey.

Falcon and 120th roads:

Jesse R. Bradshaw, 29, Newton, was stopped at a stop sign at Falcon and 120th roads, preparing to make a left turn in a 2006 Suzuki Forenza at 2 p.m. May 1, when the driver lost control of the vehicle, striking a culvert on the opposite corner of the intersection. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Matt Vogt reported the driver was not injured and damages were more than $1,000.

U.S.-77, near 40th Road:

Whitney N. Worrell, 22, Wichita, was southbound on U.S.-77 near 40th Road in 2005 Jeep Liberty at 4:45 p.m. May 1, when the vehicle’s wheels dropped off the west side of the road. The driver overcorrected, returning to the road, driving across the road, and into an east ditch, causing the vehicle to overturn. The driver had possible injuries but was not transported to a hospital by EMS, reported Marion County Undersheriff David Huntley. The vehicle was registered to Steven C. Worrell, of the same address as the driver. No damage estimate was indicated on the report.

U.S.-56 at milemarker 290:

Zachary A. Gillis, 21, Fort Collins, Colo., was westbound on U.S.-56 at milemarker 290 in a 2003 Honda Civic at 11:30 p.m. May 1, when a coyote entered the roadway. The driver stated he was unable to avoid hitting the animal, striking and killing it. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Jim Philpott reported the driver was not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages to the vehicle. The vehicle was registered to Chris Gillis, of the same address as the driver.

U.S.-50 at Old Mill Road:

Carol Brewer, 65, 763 Pawnee Road, Peabody, was westbound on U.S.-50 in a 2004 Toyota Avalon at 8:13 a.m. May 5, when she attempted to make a left turn onto Old Mill Road and a 2005 Chrysler van, driven by Neva M. Parks, 76, Council Grove, struck the rear of the Toyota on the passenger side. Passengers in the Toyota were Marcus X. Smith, 7, and Erich J. Smith, 9, no address listed on report, Peabody. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Travis Wilson.

Sunflower Road near 170th:

Gary Ewert, 49, 816 E. Main, Marion, was northbound on Sunflower Road near 170th in a 2005 Chevrolet passenger car at 8:30 p.m. May 7, when a deer came from a west ditch and was struck. Deputy Vogt reported the driver was not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages to the vehicle.

Walnut and Main streets, Marion:

Ben Box, 60, 123 W. Seventh, Florence, was driving his 1984 Ford Ranger pickup southbound on Walnut Street, Marion, at 2:12 p.m. May 8, when the vehicle caught fire at the intersection of Walnut and Main streets. Officer Jeffrey reported there were no injuries and less than $1,000 in damages.
