REPORTED

These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies.

SHERIFF

US-56/77/K-150 roundabout

In separate incidents less than a day apart, two large trucks ran off the roadway while attempting to negotiate the roundabout.

A Kansas Trucking semi driven by David Buckallew, 58, Bonner Springs, slid off the pavement and into a ditch at 10:15 a.m. Jan. 22.

Deputy Mike Ottensmeier’s report blamed the accident on driving too fast for icy or slushy roads. No damage or injuries were reported, and no citation was issued.

Less than a day later, at 8:08 a.m. Jan. 23, a container came loose from a trailer being pulled by a truck owned and driven by Amare Hussen, 49, Lenexa.

Both the container and the trailer tipped over, damaging a light pole and the vehicle’s tires.

Deputy Derek Fetrow blamed the accident on inattentive driving and failure to secure locking pins on the container.

No injuries or citations were reported.

US-50 east of Old Mill Rd.

Two Peterbilt semis going in opposite directions sideswiped each other at 8:49 a.m. Jan. 19.

One semi apparently crossed the road’s centerline, but Undersheriff David Huntley’s report said which vehicle initiated contact was not determined.

Tony Miller, 41, Clayton, Illinois, was owner-operator of one truck. The other, owned by AC Trucking Services, was driven by Juan Cifuentes, 38, Bakersfield, California,

Neither driver was reported injured.

US-56 east of Ridge Rd.

Ryan Logsdon, 35, Wichita, hit and killed a deer with his 2016 Hyundai Sonata at 6:40 p.m. Jan. 21.

Neither he nor passengers Rebekah Longsdon, 33, and Lilli Topper, 17, all of the same address, were reported injured.
