REPORTED

These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

HILLSBORO

US-56 west of Orchard Dr.

Swerving to avoid an oncoming motorist who had crossed the US-56 centerline, Yoveinny Aranguren, 18, Olathe, drove a 2005 Pontiac Vibe into a ditch, striking a utility pole at 7:49 p.m. May 19 in front of Country Haven Inn.

Vehicle owner and passenger Jeffrey Klopf II, 19, Hutchinson, reportedly was injured, but police reports do not indicate whether he received treatment.

Aranguren was cited for allegedly being an unlicensed driver. Both she and Klopf were additionally cited for allegedly filing a false accident report.

The Pontiac had to be towed. The driver of the other vehicle was not identified.

US-56 west of Orchard Dr. (again)

Deputy sheriff Douglas Dick, 59, hit a deer with his 2017 Ford Explorer patrol vehicle at 7:37 p.m. May 21.

Dick did not report injury, but his patrol vehicle had to be towed.\

MARION

Lincoln St. south of Nickerson St.

Trinity Snyder, 37, Marion, backed his 2013 Ford Focus out of a driveway and into a legally parked 2010 Chevrolet Malibu owned by Teresa Adkins of Marion at 7:34 p.m. May 22.

Officer Aaron Slater’s report blamed the accident on inattentive driving, but no ticket was issued.

Freeborn St. south of Main St.

David Francis, 18, Marion, backed a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado out of a driveway and into a 2012 Ford Edge parked across the street at 3 p.m. Thursday.

What was reported as minor damage was done to the pickup, owned by Anthony Schafers of Marion, and to the car, owned by Carolyn Mitchell of Marion.

No tickets were issued.

SHERIFF

US-77 north of 270th Rd.

Steven Goins, 22, Marion, was injured when he drove a 1998 Toyota Corolla off the highway, through a fence, and into a utility pole at 5:54 a.m. May 13.

Goins was taken to Via Christi – St. Francis Hospital by ambulance. The car, owned by Donald Wilson of the same address, overturned before passing through a fence owned by Pat Combs of rural Lincolnville and had to be towed.

Deputy Derek Fetrow’s report blamed the accident on inattentive driving.

US-56 and K-168 near Lehigh

Daniela Rojas Cardenas, 20, Las Vegas, drove a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta across US-56, onto a transportation department mixing strip, and 150 feet into a corn field at 3 a.m. May 19.

The car, owned by Felipe Rojas Cardenas of the same address, sustained extensive damage to its front end and had to be towed from the corn field, owned by Kim Koop of rural Hillsboro.

Deputy Bronson Shipman’s report, which blamed the accident on inattentive driving, noted no adverse weather conditions but did note a nearly 3½ hour delay in reporting the accident, resulting in a citation being issued to the driver.
