HILLSBORO

Ash and D Sts.

A passenger was arrested on outstanding warrants and on suspicion of drug charges, and driver James R. Spohn, 23, Marion, was ticketed for rolling through a four-way stop sign and flashing light after a two-vehicle accident at 9:49 p.m. Saturday.

Spohn drove his eastbound 2016 Chevrolet Silverado into the side of a 2008 Ford Expedition that had stopped and was turning south. Surveillance video verified that Spohn had not stopped, according to officer Peyton Heidebrecht’s report.

The Ford, owned and driven by Rylee L. Yoder, 31, rural Peabody, sustained damage described as minor. Spohn’s pickup sustained front-end damage and was towed after one of its airbags deployed.

Hillsboro ambulance was called to check on Yoder, who told police she was 7½ months’ pregnant, and on three unidentified children riding in the back of her sport-utility vehicle. None were taken to a hospital.

Spohn told police that his girlfriend, Madelynn J. Matias, 20, of Bristol, Virginia, who in 2018 was the subject of a missing person investigation in Ottawa, Kansas, had left the scene to look to search for her cat, which had been in the pickup.

Matias later was located and arrested on two out-of-county warrants for failing to appear in court and on suspicion of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia after a search at 10:36 p.m. in the 500 block of S. Main St. uncovered a gram of marijuana (enough for three “joints”) and two unspecified items of drug paraphernalia.

She was released from jail a day later after posting $8,500 in surety bonds.
