Freed by Goessel and Hillsboro rescue squad members, Lopez, who had not been wearing a seat belt, was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance for treatment of apparent head injuries.

A report by deputy Kaylan Miles states that Lopez was unable to be interviewed because of her injuries. His report blames the accident on inattentive driving and overcorrection.

Lopez’s car, listed as destroyed, was towed. A fence and trees owned by Matthew Penner of Hillsboro were listed as damaged in the accident.

HILLSBORO

US-56 and Orchard Dr.

Denise R. Taylor, 48, Canton, was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital after her 2000 Ford Ranger was rear-ended at 4:20 p.m. Thursday while she was stopped on U.S.-56 waiting to turn left onto Orchard Dr.

A 2010 Toyota Corolla driven by Nora M. Hein, 15, rural Hillsboro, hit Taylor’s pickup after Hein failed to stop or use a bypass lane, according to officer Chris Mercer’s report.

The report states that Hein suffered possible injuries but was not taken to a hospital.

Mercer blamed the accident on inattentive driving by the 15-year-old, who was listed as complying with terms of her farm permit to drive. No tickets were issued.

Both Taylor’s Ford and Hein’s Corolla, owned by Kerry W. Hein of the same rural Hillsboro address, were towed after sustaining damages sufficient to make them total losses, according to Mercer’s report.

The Corolla ran off the road to the right after the collision.

MARION

3rd St. north of Maple St.

Travis J. Schaefers, 47, Marion, drove his 2017 Chevrolet Silverado off the right side of the road and into a Vyve Broadband utility pole at 11:55 a.m. Dec. 2.

Officers Zach Hudlin’s report blames the accident on fatigue or dozing off but also indicates that a preliminary breath test for impairment attributable to alcohol was administered.

The report states that the test came back positive, but no results of a final test were listed, the accident was not coded as involving driving under the influence, and no charges were filed.

The truck, in which 16-year-old Trevor N. Schaefers of Marion was a passenger, sustained disabling damage to its passenger side and was towed.
