REPORTED

These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

Main St. west of Arbor St. in Marion

Sheriff Jeff Soyez, 48, rural Marion, hit a deer with his 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe patrol vehicle at 12:33 a.m. April 13.

The sport utility vehicle remained drivable despite damage to its left front.

Chisholm Trail Rd. north of 120th Rd.

Kenzie A. Klenda, 19, Park City, lost control of her 2020 Mercedes-Benz postal van at 2:45 p.m. April 14 and drove it through a ditch and into trees in a field owned by Ron Dirksen.

No unusual weather conditions were noted by deputy Bruce Burke, whose report indicated Klenda had been driving too fast and inattentively. No tickets were issued.

The van sustained disabling damage to its front third and undercarriage and was towed.

K-15 north of 240th Rd.

Robert A. Redenius, 66, Belle Plaine, hit a deer at 4:45 a.m. April 16 with his 2015 Chevrolet 1500. The pickup remained drivable despite damage to its front and along most its right side.

US-56 at its eastern K-15 junction

Dustin D.C. Osborne, 25, Abilene, was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance after he failed to negotiate a turn at 5:25 p.m. April 17 from southbound K-15 onto westbound US-56.

Osborne’s 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 ran off the road to the right and struck a highway sign, sustaining disabling damage to its right front. The pickup was towed.

Deputy Steven Janzen’s report blamed the accident on reckless or careless driving, but no tickets were issued.

MARION

Santa Fe and 3rd Sts.

Cars driven by two 85-year-old Marion women collided at 10:52 a.m. April 13 in the middle of an intersection controlled by a four-way stop.

Mary L. Jeffrey was eastbound on Santa Fe St. in her 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. Marilyn J. Koehler was southbound on 3rd St. in her 2015 Buick Enclave.

Officer Chris Mercer’s report does not mention whether either driver failed to stop or yield, instead blaming the accident on inattentive driving by both women. No tickets were issued.

Jeffrey’s Equinox sustained minor front-end damage, and Koehler’s Enclave sustained minor damage to its passenger side, according to Mercer’s report.

Lincoln and Main Sts.

A student backing out of a parking space at Marion High School and an adult pulling into one of those spaces were involved in a fender-bender at 3:36 p.m. April 19.

A 2008 Pontiac G6 being backed by Gabrielle A. Newell, 17, of Marion and a 2012 Dodge Caravan being parked by Ronnie P. Winters, 27, of Marion collided.

The Pontiac, owned by Ryan J. Newell, sustained minor damage to the rear of its driver’s side. The Dodge, owned by Linda R. Ramirez, sustained minor damage to its driver’s side door.

Fifteen-year-old Madisyn M. Hulett was a passenger in the Pontiac.

Officer Zach Hudlin’s report blamed the accident on inattentive driving by Newell, but no tickets were issued.
