These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

K-256/Remington Rd. south of US-56

A 2012 Chevrolet Cruze that had just turned south from US-56 onto K-256 was rear-ended at 1:49 p.m. July 31 by a 2009 Toyota Tacoma that had stopped at US-56 and continued south.

Deputy Jesse Raney’s report, which was not released until Friday, blamed the accident on inattentive driving by Toyota driver Dianne R. Novak, 71, rural Tampa.

No tickets were listed as being issued to the former county commissioner who, at the time, was seeking renomination.

Novak’s Toyota remained drivable, but the Chevrolet, owned and driven by Sydney A. Smith, 16, rural Marion, was towed.

The accident occurred 150 feet south of the intersection, Raney’s report states.

US-56 at K-15/Holly Rd.

As reported in a news story last week, Darren L. Roller, 62, Canton, was taken by ambulance to Hillsboro Community Hospital after Amy S. Koehn, 51, Durham, turned her eastbound 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe left into the path of his westbound 2008 Ford F-150 at 2:35 p.m. Aug. 2.

Roller had to be freed from his pickup, which rolled into a ditch. Koehn did not report injury. Both vehicles were listed in deputy Bruce Burke’s report as destroyed.

Burke’s report blamed the accident on inattentive driving by Koehn. However, no tickets were listed as being issued.

K-15 north of 70th Rd.

Erin R. Stephens, 39, Newton, hit an escaped herd of sheep at 3:28 p.m. Aug. 5 with her 2011 GMC Yukon, which sustained damage characterized as minor to its left front, hood, and undercarriage.

The sheep reportedly were owned by Verney L. Voth, who resides nearby.

Kalan N. Stephens, 14, of the same Newton address was riding in the Yukon at the time.

near Florence

Timothy W. Gentry, 67, Bel Aire, drove his 2015 Dodge Caravan into a roundabout curb at 8:10 p.m. Aug. 6, damaging both passenger side tires.

The Dodge also sustained damage to its left front and undercarriage and was towed.

Deputy Clayton Philpott’s report did not assess responsibility for the accident. No tickets were reported as being issued.

10th Rd. west of US-77

Distracted by a cell phone according to deputy Bruce Burke’s report, Teresa J. Koehn, 35, rural Burns, drove her westbound 2017 Toyota Camry into a slowed or stopped eastbound 2000 Peterbilt semi-trailer tractor at 8:35 a.m. Aug. 7.

Anna Lye J. Koehn and Colson J. Koehn of the same address were passengers in Koehn’s car. Although traffic matters are not subject to revision to shield juveniles, their ages were redacted by the sheriff’s department from open, public documents released to news media.

The report states that Koehn received two tickets, but the violations alleged were coded as being in reference to a statute covering vehicle registration even though other portions of the report provide apparently valid license tag information.

Koehn’s car remained drivable with damage to its front, hood, left front, and undercarriage.

The semi, owned and driven by Dylan J. Hauser, 31, Cozad, Nebraska, also remained drivable with damage to its left front and undercarriage.

US-50 west of US-77

Driver John R. Wharton, 68, Wichita, reported using a fire extinguisher on his 2009 Chevrolet Suburban after several warning lights came on at 11 a.m. Friday, he pulled to the side of the road, and he noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment.

The Suburban sustained damage to its front, hood, and undercarriage and was towed.

Riding in the Suburban at the time were Kaiden Horsley and Kort Filiatreault of the same address. Although traffic matters are not subject to revision to shield juveniles, their ages were redacted by the sheriff’s department from open, public documents released to news media.

HILLSBORO

Ash St. at US-56

A 2017 Hyundai Elantra waiting at a stop sign on Ash St. at 11:22 a.m. Sunday rear-ended a 2013 Chevrolet Captiva also waiting at the sign after the Chevy inched forward before stopping again.

Officer Duane McCarty characterized damage to both vehicles as minor.

His report blamed the accident on inattentive driving by Hyundai driver Joshua Segoviano, 27, of Chandler, Arizona, but no tickets were listed as being issued.

The Captiva was driven by Timothy M. Holub, 69, of Cheney.
