These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

US-56 west of Sunrise Rd.

Lane M. Duncan, 19, Augusta, dozed off at 4:38 a.m. Sept. 9 as his westbound 2002 Chevrolet Suburban veered across the highway and crashed into the south guard rail of a bridge over Luta Creek and Union Pacific Railway tracks, according to one of 10 accident reports released Friday by the sheriff’s department.

His SUV, owned Steven M. Duncan of a different Augusta address, sustained disabling damage to its front and blocked both lanes of the highway until it was towed.

Duncan is listed in deputy Peyton Heidebrecht’s report as possibly being injured but was not listed as being taken to a hospital.

30th Rd. east of Mustang Rd.

Dawn N. Unruh, 59, Walton, hit a deer at 2:31 a.m. Sept. 13 with a 2018 Jeep Wrangler owned by passenger Arhea M. Unruh, 37, Moundridge.

The Jeep sustained disabling damage to its front, hood, and undercarriage and was towed.

K-15 north of 210th Rd.

David P. Ramsey, 30, Abilene, hit a deer at 8:04 p.m. Sept. 13 with his 2011 Hyundai Sonata.

Kyler C. Mills of the same address was a passenger. His age was redacted without stated justification from the open public record of the wreck.

Ramsey’s Hyundai sustained disabling damage to its front and was towed.

K-15 south of 80th Rd.

Maggie L. Lindfors, 41, Hesston, hit a deer at 8:56 p.m. Sept. 15 with a 2025 Nissan Altima owned by passenger Noah Lindfors, 30, of the same address.

The Nissan sustained disabling damage to its front third and undercarriage and was towed.

Other passengers from the same address were Karter L. and Kamryn L. Lindfors, whose ages were redacted without stated justification from the open public record of the wreck.

US-56 east of Kanza Rd.

Layla L. Meyer, 46, Lost Springs, hit a deer at 5:30 a.m. Sept. 16 with a 2020 Ford Explorer owned by Jenco F. Meyer of the same address.

The SUV remained drivable with damage to its right front.

190th and Nighthawk Rds.

A 2009 Honda CR-V making a U-turn to head west clipped a westbound 2005 Chevrolet Colorado at 10:45 p.m. Sept. 17, according to a report by deputy Bruce Burke.

Burke’s report said Honda driver Luke J. Edwards, 23, of San Luis Obispo, California, failed to yield or to signal his turn, but no tickets were listed as being issued.

Edwards’ Honda, owned by Daniel C. Edwards of the same address, remained drivable with damage to its left front.

The Chevrolet, owned by Tara L. Heller and driven by Connor M. Flynn, 21, both of the same address in Broomfield, Colorado, remained drivable with damage to its right rear and undercarriage.

K-15 at 130th Rd.

Semi driver Luis Soto, 44, Lubbock, Texas, was ticketed for improper passing after he attempted to pass three vehicles at 5:32 p.m. Sept. 17, and his semi hit one of the vehicles, a 2012 Ford Fusion that was turning left into a parking lot.

Deputy Bruce Burke’s report states that Soto’s semi, a 2021 Peterbilt owned by Cargill Meat Solutions Logistics of Wichita, ran off the road to the left, overturned, and was listed as destroyed with damage to the entire vehicle.

The Ford, owned by Brandon C. Nafziger of rural Canton and driven by Susan R. Nafziger, 53, of the same address, also was listed as destroyed with damage to its front, undercarriage, windshield, and entire left side.

Marion and Hillsboro ambulances, Hillsboro rescue squad, Goessel firefighters and first responders, a LifeSafe helicopter, and the county emergency manager all were dispatched. Tampa ambulance also was ordered to stand by at Hillsboro in case of additional calls, but that call was canceled after it was determined no injuries were reported.

Firefighters diverted traffic and dealt with potentially toxic spills of fuel, oil, and turkey meat.

Nighthawk Rd. south of 150th Rd.

Erin C. Whiteman, 36, rural Marion, hit a deer at 8:11 p.m. Sept. 17 with her 2023 Toyota Camry, which remained drivable with damage to its left front and hood.

60th Rd. west of Nighthawk Rd.

A 2015 GMC Sierra braking to avoid hitting a deer was rear-ended at 8:22 p.m. Thursday by a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado traveling behind the Sierra.

Both drivers are juniors at Peabody-Burns High School. Their ages were redacted without stated justification from the open public record of the wreck. Both also were listed as a having valid, unrestricted licenses.

The Sierra, driven by Ashton L. Talkington and owned by Randi Talkington of the same Peabody address, sustained damage characterized as minor to its right rear.

The Silverado, owned by sheriff’s deputy and jailer James Philpott and driven by Dalton J. Philpott, both of the same separate Peabody address, sustained disabling damage to its right front and was towed.

Deputy Peyton Heidebrecht’s report states that brakes on the Silverado, which oddly had a Sedgwick County license plate and was not listed as having insurance, failed.

Main St. east of Poplar St., Goessel

Its driver reportedly blinded by the rising sun, an eastbound 2023 Toyota Tundra rear-ended a 2010 Toyota Sienna waiting to turn left into Goessel Elementary School at 7:47 a.m. Friday.

Damage to the front and hood of the Tundra, owned and driven by Glenn D. Herman, 60, of Goessel, was characterized as minor.

Damage to the rear and trunk of the Sienna, owned and driven by Molly J. Hilliard, 26, of a different Goessel address, was characterized as more serious, but the vehicle remained drivable.

Passengers in the Sienna were listed as Zaylee G., Zella M., and Zimmian J. Hilliard, all of the driver’s address. Their ages were redacted without stated justification from the open public record of the wreck.

Deputy Landis Goodman’s report blamed the wreck on Herman being distracted, but no tickets were listed as being issued.

HILLSBORO

Casey’s General Store parking lot

The side of a 1998 Buick Century hit the bumper of a parked 2005 Nissan Murano while the Buick’s driver was attempting to leave what she said was a crowded parking lot at 10:15 a.m. Thursday.

The Buick, owned by Laura B. Robinson, 72, Hillsboro, sustained a scratch along its right side.

The Nissan, owned and driven by Savanah Jacobs, 34, Newton, sustained damage to its rear bumper.

Backyard in 200 block of N. Ash St.

Backing out of a backyard at 12:10 a.m. Saturday, the rear of a 2013 Toyota 4Runner hit the front of a 2006 Ford Taurus also parked in the yard.

The Toyota, owned and driven by Michael W. Osterhout, 55, Galveston, Texas, sustained damage to its left rear fender. Cynthia L. Osterhoot of the same address was a passenger at the time.

The Ford, owned by Thomas G. Ruck of rural Marion, sustained damage to its right front fender.
