These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:
SHERIFF
190th Rd. west of Remington Rd.
Swerving to miss a deer at 7:56 p.m. Nov. 3, Gavin M. Ramirez, 17, Marion, lost control of a 1992 GMC Sonoma, crossed the centerline, drove back into a right ditch, and hit a utility pole.
According to monitored ambulance broadcasts, Ramirez hit his head in the wreck and was taken to St. Luke Hospital by relatives instead of by ambulance.
The pickup, owned by Linda R. Ramirez of a different Marion address, sustained disabling damage to its front third and undercarriage and was towed.
The report, one of 17 released Friday by the sheriff’s department, was delayed because deputy Clayton Philpott was ordered to make corrections to it.
US-56 east of Remington Rd.
Robert C. Pugh, 40, Marion, hit a deer at 6:02 p.m. Nov. 4 with his 2020 Subaru Forester.
The car remained drivable with damage to its right front.
US-56/77 south of 360th Rd.
Rebecca M. Craney, 43, rural Lincolnville, hit a deer at 6:44 p.m. Nov. 7 with her 2023 Chevrolet Silverado.
The pickup, owned by Wyatt S. Craney of the same address, remained drivable with damage to its passenger side.
US-50/77 or US-56/77/K-150 roundabout
Yaideth M. Carter, 20, Junction City, hit a deer with her 2013 Ford Focus around 8:15 p.m. Nov. 7 at one or the other of the US-77 roundabouts but did not stop.
Her 2013 Ford Focus later was stopped in Dickinson County for having a headlight out. She told deputies she did not recall exactly where she had hit the deer and had not stopped because she had no insurance.
Her car sustained damage characterized as disabling to its right front and was towed.
No tickets were listed as being issued.
K-15 south of 110th Rd.
Adrianna F. Sluder, 20, Goessel, hit a deer at 7:07 a.m. Nov. 8 while driving a 2009 Chevrolet HHR. The sport-utility vehicle then veered off the road to the right.
The SUV, owned by Dexter W. Carey of Hesston, sustained disabling damage to its front, hood, undercarriage, and passenger side and was towed.
Shelby D.R. Russell, 21, of a neighboring Goessel address, was riding in the SUV.
90th Rd. east of Meridian Rd.
Dale R. Moddelmog, 72, Moundridge, hit a deer at 8:51 a.m. Nov. 8 with his 2016 GMC Sierra.
The pickup remained drivable with damage to its right front.
US-56/77 north of 230th Rd.
Two SUVs hit the same deer at 6:15 p.m. Nov. 8.
Heather R. Goering, 24, rural Lincolnville, hit the deer with her northbound 2011 Toyota Sienna.
The deer then hit a northbound 2022 GMC Terrain owned and driven by Kenneth W. Tedder, 63, Herington.
Three-year-old Alaina R. Goering and infant Landon J. Goering of the same Lincolnville address were riding in Goering’s SUV.
Jacquelyne D. Tedder, 77, of the same Herington address was in Tedder’s SUV.
Both SUVs remained drivable with damage to their left fronts.
US-50 east of Yarrow Rd.
Austin D. Willis, 33, Valley Center, hit a deer at 5:18 a.m. Nov. 9 with his 2021 Hyundai Elantra.
The car remained drivable with damage to its left front and hood.
Upland Rd. south of Gilham Rd.
Michael J. Darrow, 41, Marion County Lake, hit a deer at 6:58 p.m. Nov. 9 with his 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe.
The sport-utility vehicle, owned by Chelsea L. Darrow of the same address, remained drivable with damage to its front and hood.
Alamo Rd. north of 120th Rd.
Brian M. Heath, 30, rural Newton, hit a deer at 5:50 a.m. Nov. 11 with his 2008 Dodge Ram 2500.
Braxton M. Heath, 12, of the same address was a passenger.
The pickup remained drivable with damage to its driver’s side.
190th and Limestone Rds.
An eastbound semi-trailer truck stopped in the intersection was hit at 7 p.m. Nov. 12 by a westbound van.
Deputy Joshua Meliza’s report blames the wreck on improper parking by semi driver Bruce D. Siebert, 66, rural Hillsboro, and inattentive driving by van driver Brendan J. Reimer, 58, Hillsboro.
The semi, a 2014 International 860 owned by Joshua J. Siebert of a different rural Hillsboro address, remained drivable with damage to its rear axles.
Reimer’s van sustained disabling damage to its front, hood, windows, and driver’s side and was towed.
No tickets were listed as being issued.
US-77 south of 50th Rd.
Ryan M. Mathews Cox, 23, Junction City, hit a deer at 6:38 p.m. Nov. 12 with his 2024 Ram 2500.
The pickup sustained disabling damage to its front, hood, and passenger side and was towed.
190th Rd. west of Limestone Rd.
Terry L. Hamm, 65, Hillsboro, hit a deer at 12:49 p.m. Thursday with his 2017 Nissan Altima, which then ran off the road to the right.
The car remained drivable with damage to its front left and right and to its rear right.
K-15 south of 310th Rd.
Clara E. Frick, 68, rural Durham, hit a deer at 8:21 p.m. Thursday with a 2010 Ford Fusion owned by passenger Alice L. Jost, 95, rural Hillsboro.
The car remained drivable with damage to its front and hood.
Indigo Rd. south of 160th Rd.
Karl J. Sechrist, 58, Hillsboro, hit a deer at 6:09 a.m. Friday with his 2020 Ford Fusion.
The car remained drivable with damage to its left front and side.
120th Rd. east of Alamo Rd.
Chase R. Hansen, 39, rural Newton, hit a deer at 6:48 a.m. Friday with his 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
The pickup sustained disabling damage to its front third and undercarriage and was towed.
HILLSBORO
Container Services entryway
A city water department employee reported that a 2019 Freightliner Cascadia semi-trailer truck struck a fire hydrant at 12:09 p.m. Nov. 11 at Container Services and left.
Police checked surveillance video. Further investigation revealed that the truck was owned by F2F Transport of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and was driven by Timothy P. Erickson, 78, Annandale, Minnesota.
The hydrant had just been replaced after a similar incident Oct. 23.
1st and Ash Sts.
Surveillance video also was used to identify another 2024 Freightliner Cascadia that damaged a stop sign at 2:40 p.m. Nov. 11.
While turning right onto Ash St., the rear axles of the semi’s trailer jumped the curb, and the trailer clipped the sign.
The semi was identified as belonging to M6 Concrete Accessories of Wichita and being driven by Robert J. Bromlow Jr., 60, rural Whitewater.
US-56 west of Ash St.
Francis L. Loecker, 65, McPherson, hit a deer at 7:30 p.m. Sunday with his 2025 Ford Explorer.
Jacqueline M. Loecker, 63, of the same address was a passenger in the SUV, which remained drivable with damage to its left front.
