MARION

Main St. east of Locust St.

An 18-year-old driver speeding over hedge apples left on city streets as a Halloween prank lost control of his pickup truck at 12:30 a.m. Nov. 1 and twice hit a stone retaining wall in front of Marion High School, according to a report released Friday by Marion police.

A hitch on the back of Damien M. Thouvenell’s eastbound 2008 Chevrolet C2500 hit the wall first, causing the truck to spin around. The second impact was on the driver’s side of the front of the truck.

Thouvenell drove off with passenger Blair L. Thompson, 17, later telling police that he had fled because he was afraid of getting in trouble.

Police Chief Aaron Slater’s report, which categorizes the wreck as a hit-and-run, blames the damage on inattentive driving, exceeding posted speed limits, and overcorrecting.

No tickets were listed as being issued.
