These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:
SHERIFF
US-50 east of Bluestem Rd.
Aman Singh, 25, Ozone Park, New York, lost control of his 2018 Freightliner semi-trailer truck at 1:35 a.m. May 29, according to one of 11 accident reports released Friday by the sheriff’s office.
The truck, owned by Tanda Logistics of Fresno, California, ran off the road to the right and tipped on its side after Singh attempted to drive it back onto the road.
Deputy Peyton Heidebrecht’s report blames the accident on wet pavement and inattentive driving. Singh was ticketed for not wearing a seatbelt.
The semi sustained disabling damage to its left side and was towed.
K-15 north of 340th Rd.
Donald E. Schmidt, 87, De Witt, Nebraska, hit a deer at 8:32 p.m. May 29 with his 2017 Buick Envoy.
The sport-utility vehicle sustained disabling damage to its front third and undercarriage and was towed.
Karen K. Schmidt, 81, of the same address was a passenger.
Kanza Rd. south of 190th Rd.
Susan L. Olson, 74, rural Hillsboro, hit a coyote at 10:04 a.m. May 30 with her 2020 Chevrolet Equinox, which remained drivable with damage to its front third and undercarriage.
US-50/77 roundabout
A 2015 Jeep Wrangler entering the roundabout collided at 5:56 p.m. May 30 with a 2025 Ford F-150 already in the roundabout.
A report by deputy Joshua Meliza blames the accident on inattentive driving by Jeep owner and driver Mitchell L. Garner, 64, Marion County Park and Lake, but no tickets were listed as being issued.
Both the Jeep and the Ford, owned and driven by Carl N. Peterson, 79, rural Council Grove, remained drivable — the Jeep with damage to its left front and the Ford with damage to its passenger side.
150th Rd. east of Eagle Rd.
Marshall C. Anderson, 46, North Newton, hit a deer at 8:18 a.m. May 31 with his 2008 Jeep Liberty, which remained drivable with damage to its left front and hood.
US-50 west of Mustang Rd.
Daniel J. Timmermeyer, 40, Derby, hit a deer at 5:45 a.m. June 1 while driving for work a 2021 Ford F-150 owned by Equiplease of Wichita.
The pickup sustained disabling damage to its front third and undercarriage and was towed.
190th Rd east of Pawnee Rd.
Kayla M. McPhail, 18, Newton, hit a deer at 9:02 p.m. June 3 with a 2018 Dodge Charger owned by Sheila K. Thouvenell of the same address.
The car remained drivable with damage to its left front.
Caitlin I. Selley, 16, and Joseph L. Rovelo, 21, of different Marion addresses were passengers.
120th Rd. west of Alamo Rd.
Cynthia R. Gaddis, 44, Goessel, hit a deer at 7:17 a.m. June 6 with a 2010 Ford Fusion owned by Virginia S. Sprague of McPherson.
The car remained drivable with damage to its front, hood, and undercarriage.
Trey Gaddis, 17, of the same Goessel address was a passenger.
40th Rd. east of Wagon Wheel Rd.
Lane G. Watkins, 22, rural Peabody, hit a deer at 8:35 p.m. June 7 with his 2019 GMC Sierra, which remained drivable with damage to its left front and undercarriage.
US-77 north of 140th Rd.
Melissa R. Penwell, 46, Cedar Point, reported four hours later that she hit a deer at 5:37 a.m. June 8 with her 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Damage to the right front of the Jeep was characterized as minor.
US-77 south of 140th Rd.
Told by a construction zone flagger to back up at 11:15 a.m. June 10, Robert D. Magathan, 78, Marion, backed his 2017 Chevrolet Equinox into a 2006 Porsche 911 owned and driven by Mason B. McWilliams, 24, Junction City.
Deputy Bruce Burke’s report blames the accident on inattentive driving by Magathan. No tickets were listed as being issued.
Damage to the rear of Magathan’s Chevy was characterized as minor. The Porsche remained drivable with apparently more serious damage to its front.
Jan E. Magathan, 69, Herington, was a passenger in the Chevy.
