Ace was the place . . . for ladies only

Marion County Hardware was the place to be Monday evening. For the ladies, that is.
At least 200 showed up for Ladies Night Out sponsored by the store’s owners, Kent and Sandy Carmichael.
The Carmichaels were on hand to mingle with the crowd.
In the midst of the shopping and snacking that went on, Kent Carmichael led a game, “What’s in your purse?” Each winner received a Christmas present.
Each attendee received a small hammer at her request as she left.
Clerk Chris Schafers said they gave away 192 hammers.
“It was a busy night,” he said. “The Carmichaels said this was the largest turnout of all their stores. We joked that maybe the women of Marion were looking for something to do. The last woman left the store at 8:55.”
The Carmichaels also have hardware stores in Ulysses, Scott City, and Larned. They were pleased with the turnout at Marion.
“It beat all my expectations,” Kent said. “We had no idea it would turn out like it did. Everyone had fun, from eating the finger food to playing the game. It was a very, very good night.”
