Agnes Bernhardt

Former Tampa resident Agnes Bernhardt, 91, died Sept. 25 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.

Born Aug. 16, 1919, at Wolf Point, Mont., to Jacob and Helena (Ediger) Quiring, she graduated from Fordson High School at Dearborn, Mich. She attended Tabor College where she obtained a teaching certificate. She taught 11 years in rural schools in Marion, Tampa, and Pilsen.

On Aug. 3, 1945, she married Alvin Bernhardt of Tampa. They lived on the family farm for 57 years. She worked for the post office, Friesen’s Jewelers, and in Tabor College cafeteria.

She was a member of Strassburg Baptist Church, Marion.

Her husband preceded her in death April 19, 2002. A brother, Milt, and two sisters, Goldie Grace and Rosella Mae, also preceded her.

Survivors include her son, James of Marion; a daughter, Laurel Acklin of El Dorado; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday at Strassburg Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Mashburn officiating.

Burial was in Strassburg Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with the church.
