Former Ramona City Council member Alfred Sondergard, 91, died July 13 at Medicalodges of Herington.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ramona. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 tonight at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Herington.
Born Nov. 6, 1922 to Niels and Lena (Wilson) Sondergard, he was a mechanic and member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was sexton of Lewis Cemetery, and served on the city council for 30 years and served on the school board. A Ramona High School graduate, he served in the Navy during World War II.
He married Darlene Helbach on Sept. 6, 1942. She survives along with three daughters, Karen Ehrlich of Marion, Marilyn Peterson of Burdick, and Kaye Risser of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He is preceded by nine brothers and a grandson.
A memorial fund has been established with the church.
