Algae warning for county lake lifted
A blue-green algae warning for Marion County Lake was lifted Thursday after four weeks.
Kansas Department of Health and Environment gave the lake’s waters the all-clear after multiple tests by scientists, lake supervisor Isaac Hett said.
“The last two times the state has been out to test we’ve been in the clear,” he said.
A troubling algae bloom in the lake’s coves and on its north side has subsided after recent rains and change in wind direction, he said.
Blue-green algae can release a neurotoxin that can be fatal to humans and animals.
The KHDE updates algae warnings and advisories every Thursdays.
