All safe after team bus burns
An activity bus loaded with Marion High School football players caught fire Friday afternoon north of McPherson on Interstate 135.
The bus was on the way back from football camp at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina.
All coaches and players and the bus driver all escaped injury, according to a school announcement.
Superintendent Justin Wasmuth and other district employees went to pick up team members and staff.
Jerry Kline was driving the bus at the time.
Wasmuth confirmed for the Record that the fire began in the back of the bus, where the engine compartment is located.
The bus appeared to be fully engulfed in flames and was a total loss.
