LETTERS TO THE EDITOR:   Amelia Brandt

Figure 8 homecoming

To the editor:

I am writing this letter today to thank the Hillsboro and Marion communities for helping make my 30th birthday an unforgettable one.

I was born in Hillsboro and spent the first 18 years of my life there. Since my 18th birthday, my life has taken me to many corners of the world, and I’ve had opportunities to experience many things, from eating guinea pigs in Ecuador to getting caught in riots in Haiti. For my 30th birthday, though, I wanted to be home with my family in Hillsboro.

For the past five years or so, my whole family has become very involved in the figure 8 race at the Marion County Fair. Since I travel so much, I’ve never had the chance to be home to see them race. This year I was not only able to be home to see the race, but I got to participate.

I was nervous about the race and didn’t know how much fun I would have, but after the first heat, I was addicted. Tearing around the track with my friends and family and hearing the roars of the crowd was just about the most fun I’ve ever had.

I want to especially thank my family for doing all the work on my car.  My only regret is that my dad and uncle beat me, but there’s always next time!
