Angry encounter with anglers leads to wreck

Staff writer

A Peabody man angry at people fishing off a bridge on 70th Rd. east of Quail Creek Rd. crashed into two cars at 7:05 p.m. July 8.

According to deputy Kaylan Miles’ accident report, Randy M. Eitzen, 61, Peabody, said he attempted to drive his 2019 Chevrolet Silverado between two parked cars, then backed up and attempted to go the opposite direction.

Eitzen struck one car while driving forward and the other car while backing up.

He first struck a 2012 Ford Fiesta owned by Mareta G. Jones of Peabody.

When backing up, he struck a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee owned by Taylor E. Alexander of Wichita.

A witness reported Eitzen had yelled at them about fishing off the bridge, then accelerated before striking the first vehicle. She said he then reversed and sideswiped her vehicle.

Miles’ report said both cars were legally parked at the time.
