Another crash

It happened again Friday morning at the intersection of U.S.-56/77/K-150.

Two vehicles collided when one of them ran a stop sign. One man was seriously injured.

Six weeks earlier, another crash occurred when a passenger vehicle ran a stop sign at that intersection. Four people were injured in that collision.

These are just two of the most recent incidents at that intersection.

I’m not sure what rule of thumb KDOT uses to determine a dangerous intersection. It’s probably some sort of complicated formula that requires a specific number of deaths in a certain amount of time.

I don’t fault anyone for the accidents, most particularly KDOT. They engineer the roads to make them as safe as they can but human error continues to occur.

Between cell phones, stereos, and thinking about other things besides driving, motorists today have many distractions that may cause driver error.

Slowing down traffic at that intersection is advisable and maybe a roundabout would be one way of addressing the situation.

Another issue regarding that intersection and every accident scene is the fact that some people still do not wear seat belts.

It is such a simple task these days. Every vehicle built in the past 25 years have them. So, what’s the big deal? They’re right there.

One little “click” can save your life or the life of a loved one.
