Back to drawing board on Peabody shop
After spending weeks talking to a designer and a contractor and even considering buying an old dollar store, county commissioners gave in to time pressure Monday and decided to keep the Peabody-area road and bridges shop where it is.
The move will cost the county $15,000 to purchase the existing building.
“I’d like to make a motion that we keep that building and give us some time to come up with the funding for this and do this right the first time rather than jump into it,” commissioner Claude Dirks said. “Then once we get that done, we can put that piece of property off the market and sell it outright.”
His motion passed unanimously.
“It’s not my money we’re spending, and I want to make sure it’s done right,” he said. “We don’t have the money right now anyway.”
