Benefit will help Brooks family

Friends of Sharlene Brooks and her family are hosting a benefit soup and chili feed from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Peabody-Burns High School.

Cost of the meal is by donation.

Brooks, USD 398 Board Clerk and mother of two, was recently diagnosed with cancer. She will be going to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston in the next few weeks.

“The family has insurance,” Tammy Pickens, an organizer of the event, said. “But there is no way of knowing at this time what the coverage will be or what kind of additional expenses they will have.

“We know the economy has hit people hard, but we hope everyone will come out and support Sharlene and Harold and their family.”

Pickens also said Peabody State Bank will be accepting money from people who want to contribute, but are unable to attend the dinner.

For more information, contact Pickens at (620) 381-0475.
