Bina heads to softball world series
Hillsboro High School graduate Danae Bina of Marion, who won all-conference honors in the Lone Star Conference this season, will be playing later this week with top-rated Angelo State in the NCAA Division II college world series for softball.
A gold-glove shortstop in her first season with Angelo State, Bina batted .318 this year with 47 hits, including nine doubles and a homer. She also drew 21 walks and stole a team-high 31 bases.
Bina scored the tying run Saturday in her team’s weather-delayed, come-from-behind victory over Texas Women’s to qualify for the series, starting Thursday in Salem, Virginia.
Afterward, she was named to the all-region team. She earlier was chosen by her teammates for her school’s Holland Award for softball.
As a third baseman last year, Bina led Butler Community College to its first national softball championship.
Her parents are Raymond and Denice Bina of Marion.
