Just two county teams won Friday night — Marion over Inman in blowout fashion, and Peabody-Burns in a comeback against Marais des Cygnes Valley.

Peabody-Burns

The Warriors celebrated homecoming with a second-half comeback over Marais des Cygnes Valley. The final score was 46-24.

Peabody-Burns started off slow, allowing the Trojans to jump out to an 18-0 lead before the first quarter was over.

“We knew it was going to be a challenging game, and being homecoming, I was afraid we was going to play flat, and that was the case,” coach Eric Dutton said.

But by halftime, Peabody-Burns had nearly dug out of its first-quarter deficit, trailing 18-14.

“Once the boys started playing, we only allowed six points the rest of the night,” Dutton said.

The Trojans scores once in the second half, but the Warriors made it clear it was their night to celebrate.

“This week and the rest of the season, we are working on starting the game with high intensity instead of waiting till the middle of the first quarter to start playing,” Dutton said. “Also, we have to stop making the small mistakes on a weekly basis.”

The Warriors (3-1) will hit the road Friday against Southern Coffey County (0-5).

Marion

The Warriors bounced back Friday with a commanding victory on the road in Inman, winning 26-7.

Marion put points on the board in all four quarters.

Jameson Looper started the scoring in the first with a 15-yard rushing touchdown.

In the second, Lane Smith rushed for a 29-yard touchdown.

Looper reached the end zone again in the third quarter, followed by quarterback Carson Krause sprinting for a touchdown on an 11-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Hitch Soyez, Jackson Bitonti, Luke Watkins, and Brian Nguyen were all credited with at least one quarterback sack.

Isaac Wesner and Tripp Peterson each pulled down an interception.

The Warriors (4-1) will play at home for the third time this season Friday against Moundridge (4-1).

Hillsboro

The Trojans lost a defensive battle 14-6 Friday on the road in Ellsworth.

“Congratulations to Ellsworth on a hard-fought victory,” coach Demetrius Cox said. “Our team demonstrated incredible ability to compete, yet we recognize the need to improve our play in certain positions.”

The lone score for Hillsboro came in the first half — a 21-yard pass from quarterback Zayne Haslett to receiver Lincoln Wichert.

Ellsworth’s two touchdowns came in the second half .

“By enhancing our physicality and honing our attention to detail, we will strive to become an even better team overall,” Cox said.

Hillsboro (2-3) will host undefeated Southeast of Saline (5-0) Friday night.

Goessel

In the second week of district play, Goessel lost 50-0 to Central Plains.

After allowing three touchdowns in the first eight minutes of play, the Bluebirds stopped an Oiler running back on a two-point conversion attempt and wrestled him to the ground, preventing more points.

Central Plains led 28-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Oilers scored two more times in six minutes in the second period before failing to convert an onside kick.

The Bluebirds took possession at their own 38 yard line. Braxton Davis took a handoff up the middle and went untouched for 40 yards until a collision stopped him at the one -yard line.

A fumbled snap and a penalty moved the ball back to the 11, and an incomplete pass in the end zone prevented the Bluebirds from scoring.

The game was abandoned at halftime.

Goessel (1-4) will be at Solomon (0-5) Friday for another district game.

Centre

The Cougars were hit with déjà vu Friday night against Rural Valley, losing by the same score as the week prior, 68-0.

Quarterback Noah Brunner finished with 15 pass attempts for three completions. He also had one interception.

Centre (0-5) will hit the road this Friday against Crest (3-2).
