Bown-Corby apartments for sale

Staff writer

A Marion apartment building converted in 2015 from a historic elementary school is now up for sale for $550,000.

Bown-Corby, 412 N. 2nd St., which retains the name of the school it used to be, was listed for sale March 29 with Pinnacle Realty Group in Wichita.

Listing agent Selene George manages the building. She and her husband, Wichita developer Tom George, own it.

Tom George bought the building for $40,000 in 2014, then worked to bring it to listing standards for the National Historic Register.

It opened for renters in January 2016.

When Bown-Corby was being renovated, the couple owned two other renovated former school buildings in Wichita.

“We did find a niche in that,” Selene George said.

They also renovated a couple of abandoned residential buildings.

She said they decided to sell Bown-Corby because Tom is retiring, although he has other properties he’s still working on.

Selene George said the 10,440-square foot, 12-unit apartment building “stays pretty full.”
