Marion Boy Scout Troop 102 will attend Camp Hale in Talihina, Okla., July 22 through 28 this summer. This is their second time attending the camp.
New scouts will be involved in a rank advancement program and have a choices for three other merit badges. Scouts of first-class rank or above will be able to take four merit badge classes.
“The boys love this camp,” Scoutmaster Mike Fruechting said. “The camp is good because the boys can earn a wide variety of merit badges, including Eagle-required badges, plus it is just plain fun.”
But attending camp can be expensive, with a camp fee of $225, plus the cost of transportation and eating on the way to and from camp. The total cost is $285 per scout.
To help the boys pay for camp, the Marion Boy Scout Boosters will have fundraisers, including a fireworks sale and meals. The first fundraiser meal will be a “Breakfast for Supper” from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall. The VFW is the troop’s chartering organization.
