A new eatery with a carry-out buffet and limited seating opened Monday north of US-56 in Marion.
56 Café was opened by Marion residents Richard and Rechelle Smith. Richard works for the county. Rechelle works for the school district.
The café, housed in the former Trace of Copper building, will serve breakfast 6 to 9 a.m. and lunch 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
He hopes to soon expand to serving dinners on weekends.
Diners steadily came through the door Monday.
The café’s slogan is “see what’s cooking.”
In keeping with the slogan, Rechelle Smith and employees won’t have a set menu. It will be a matter of “come see what’s cooking” instead.
Monday’s selections included hamburgers, hot dogs, and smoked sausage with fixings, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, tortilla chips, cheese sauce, and taco meat.
Customers enter the door and order what they want to drink. The drink price is written down and given to the cashier who rings up the meal at $10.99 a pound after the customer has selected from the buffet.
Customers choose a Styrofoam to-go box or paper plate.
