Parade

A large crowd turned out to enjoy a noon meal provided by the Centre High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America, along with musical entertainment and homemade ice cream.

The 38th annual Labor Day parade began at 2 p.m., accompanied by strong, gusty south winds and temperatures in the upper 90s.

“There’s No Place like Burdick” was the theme.

There were 45 entries. Judges were Shawn Baird of Herington, Angie Becker of Herington, and Sid Wilkerson of Council Grove.

The Burdick United Methodist Church Junior/Senior High Sunday school class won the theme prize. Dressed like characters in the Wizard of Oz, their slogan was, “God is Ozsome.”

The judges’ prize went to Dan Peterson, whose grandchildren rode on a float displaying the sign: “There’s no place like Burdick to go fishing with Grandpa.”
