Burdick parade honors longtime fireman, leader

Firemen from nine area fire districts brought 17 vehicles to Burdick’s Labor Day parade to honor Burdick fire chief Glenn Carlson, who died Aug. 14.
Burdick, Lost Springs, Lincolnville, Tampa, Herington, Dunlap, Wilsey, Delavan, and White City fire departments participated.
Carlson was was well-known in a wide area.
Carlson also was president of Burdick Council of Clubs, which sponsors various activities such as Relay for Life and the Labor Day celebration.
Connie Johnson, secretary for Council of Clubs, stepped up to take his place Monday, providing announcements of award winners.
“Glenn was such a great guy to everybody,” Hanson said.
The 40-minute “Welcome Home” parade had almost 75 entries.
The tribute to Carlson won the $40 judges’ prize. Burdick Hustlers 4-H Club float won the $50 theme prize.
Overall winners of the fun run were Audrey Bina in the women’s division, with a time of 17 minutes, 42 seconds and Spencer Cary in the men’s division, with a time of 11:44.
