Burns man arrested after domestic dispute

A Burns man is being held in lieu of $20,000 bond after deputies found both his wife, Robyn Basham, and his 10-year-old son injured after an altercation at their home.

William P. Castleberry, 45, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated domestic battery, endangering a child, and child abuse Monday after the incident.

Undersheriff Larry Starkey said Basham’s breathing was restricted. Both she and the boy were bruised, but neither required medical care, he said.

Castleberry was charged in May with having battered a city employee during a dispute. Allegedly, Castleberry pulled city employee Sean Blansett off a riding mower, and the two ended up in a fight on the ground.

Basham, water and sewer operator for the city of Burns, was fired the day of the altercation.

Castleberry pleaded guilty Oct. 17 to an amended charge of disorderly conduct and was sentenced Nov. 3 to six months’ probation and ordered to pay $353.

He has a history of disputes with Burns City Council members, and some council members have obtained restraining orders against him.
