Businesses plan street dance

JR Hatters owner is spearheading an effort to have a street dance in downtown Marion on July 13.
Johsie Reid has obtained permission from the state highway department to close off the block between 2nd and 3rd Sts. from 7 to 10 p.m.
The Matt Engels Band of Augusta will provide the music.
“We’ve had tremendous support from the business community,” Reid said. “The dance is a community appreciation project, a thank you for the new downtown, and a way of bringing the community together.”
In addition to JR Hatters, other businesses supporting the event so far are Edward Jones, Central National Bank, Marion Auto, and Sew What Quilt Shop. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy the small town atmosphere.
City administrator Roger Holter has given his blessing to the event.
“It’s a great idea,” he said. “Anytime the community and merchants can work together to promote the town is a good thing,” he said.
