Buyer seeks to sell, lease old dollar store

Marion’s former Family Dollar/Dollar Tree store is up for lease or purchase after it was bought by a South Dakota company, Shay’s Storage.
The company, based in Sioux Falls, is a real estate firm owned by Shannon Van Buskirk.
Her company bought the approximately 8,300-square-foot building after identifying Marion as a strong investment opportunity among dozens of similar properties nationwide.
“We looked at about 50 Family Dollars, and the Marion community really stood out,” Steve Van Buskirk, Shannon’s husband, said.
He cited Marion’s economic activity and location compared to other markets where former Family Dollar stores were auctioned.
The building is being offered for sale at $525,000 or for lease at roughly $4,000 to $5,000 per month.
According to Van Buskirk, the structure is in good condition and fully climate-controlled, making it suitable for a variety of commercial uses.
The company has fielded inquiries from three potential users and is considering hiring a local real estate agent to help market the property.
“The objective is to get some economic activity in the building,” he said.
