Car seat check lane coming to Hillsboro
Parents who want to make sure their child’s car seat is properly installed — or whether it’s still the right one for the child — can get help Oct. 23 in Hillsboro.
A child car seat installation event will be 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Hillsboro Elementary School’s circle drive.
Certified installers will check whether the car seat is properly installed, install a new car seat if needed, and assess whether the car seat is still the right one for the child.
Road injuries are the leading cause of preventable deaths and injuries to children.
Correctly used child safety seats can reduce the risk of death by as much as 71%.
More than half of car seats are not used or installed correctly.
The car seat checks are sponsored by the health department, Parents as Teachers, McPherson and Marion Head Start, Marion County extension office, and Hillsboro police department.
Marion County Health Department can answer questions about proper car seats. It also has car seats available for qualifying low income families. The phone number is (620)-382-2550.
