Cards requested to celebrate 65th anniversary

The children of Carl and Dorothy (Wilson) Walter are requesting a card shower in honor of their parents’ 65th wedding anniversary.

Carl served in World War II and was among the first American troops at Nagasaki, Japan, after an atomic bomb was dropped.

Upon returning to the United States, Carl opened a shop in Hillsboro and met Dorothy, a Halstead Hospital School of Nursing graduate from Abilene who was working in Wichita at the time.

The couple was married Aug. 14, 1949, at the Christian Church in Abilene.

They made their home in Hillsboro. Dorothy was a registered nurse at Salem Hospital, and Carl was a licensed shoe repairman.

They moved to Rogers, Arkansas, in 1983 to retire but continued working.

They have traveled in the United States, Europe, Canada, New Zealand, and Thailand.

Their children are Sandy Sanders of Springfield, Missouri, and Tim Walter of Highland, Ohio.

Their extended family includes their children’s spouses, grandchildren Heather and Chuck Chandler of Vail, Colorado; Jason Sanders of Springfield, Missouri; Lindsey and Christopher Strok of Rogers, Arkansas; Ashlee, Joshua, and Jon of Hilyard, Ohio; and one great-grandchild, Rhys Chandler of Vail, Colorado.
