Celia Byer

Celia Diane Byer, 58, of Marion, died June 28 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

Born Nov. 9, 1951, in McPherson to Harold and Celia Hamilton, she graduated from McPherson High School and Bethany College. During the 1970s, she taught art classes at Hillsboro High School, Tabor College, McPherson College, and taught summer art classes to children in Marion.

On June 9, 1973, she married Les Byer of McPherson. Together they established Flint Hills Clay Works in 1980. In her later years when her health would allow, she spent many hours visiting the elderly in Marion nursing homes. She enjoyed singing in the Valley United Methodist Church choir and with the Flint Hills Women’s Barbershop chorus.

Survivors include her husband, Les; sisters Cheryl, Carol, and Candy; a brother, Harold; sons Eric and Chris; and granddaughters, Lyndsie, Reghan, and Ryleigh.

Services were at Valley United Methodist Church in Marion. A memorial has been established with Valley United Methodist Church.
