Cell tower meeting delayed

Discussion of a proposed cell phone tower that was to take place during Marion’s city planning and zoning meeting Tuesday has been delayed until May 28.
City administrator Roger Holter said the lawyer for Verizon Wireless asked for a continuance of the hearing until the next planning and zoning meeting. No reason was given for the continuance, Holter said.
“Our legal counsel and their legal counsel are in discussion about the mutually agreed extension of the project application deadline based on federal and state statutes,” Holter said.
The proposed cell phone tower at Commercial and Forest Sts. in Marion is opposed by surrounding property owners based on what they say is inadequate notice to neighbors.
Scott Goble, site acquisition specialist who represents the property owner, James Weidenbener, and Verizon Wireless, the company that wants to install the tower, said the tower would provide better service to Marion.
