Centre approves day care building
Staff writer
At a special meeting Monday, Centre’s board of education voted 6-1 to approved a $365,745 bid from NF Construction of Marion to build a new, temporary day care facility north of the district’s elementary school wing.
The building will provide day care for staff members until a larger project involving the addition of two preschool classrooms and two day care rooms can be completed.
The district is awaiting a decision on federal grant before taking bids on the larger project.
The 50-by-50-foot metal-framed building approved Monday is expected to be completed by Oct. 13.
Before the new building was approved, Superintendent Larry Geist reported that a room in downtown Tampa could be rented as an alternative. That idea was rejected out-of-hand.
When the larger project is completed, the temporary day care building will become a weight room.
