The Centre High School girls’ basketball team defeated White City Friday, on the road, 37-20.
Allison Shields led Centre’s scoring with 11 points including six in the first quarter. Aided by a field goal from Shelby Deines and a free throw by Leann Pankratz, Shields led the team to a 9-5 first quarter finish.
Carlye Simons made a three-pointer and Ripley Howard a field goal in the second quarter, to give Centre a 14-9 halftime lead.
The girls picked up their play in the second half, scoring 14 points in both of the remaining quarters compared to a total of 11 points by White City.
In addition to Shields, other scorers were Simons seven, Deines and Howard six each, Pankratz five, and Josie Peterson two.
The team’s overall record as of Friday was 8-5.
The junior varsity defeated White City, 29-6. D.J. Turner scored 11 points, followed by Peterson with 10. Other scorers were Tori Marler four and Theo Kassebaum and Katie Remy two each.
