CENTRE BASKETBALL: Girls

The Centre High School Lady Cougars faced a good Lebo team Friday at home and were defeated, 45-30.

Centre made just one basket in the first quarter. The slow 9-2 start plagued the team the remainder of the way, though their scoring improved in the final three quarters.

Leann Pankratz, Allison Shields, and Carlye Simons scored the team’s eight first-half points. Shelby Deines and Ripley Howard added points in the third quarter, but Centre was outscored 17-11.

Both teams scored 11 points in the fourth quarter. The Lady Cougars trailed by 10 in the final minutes of the game, but two field goals and a free throw by Lebo gave Lebo a 15-point win.

Shields scored 10 points, Pankratz eight, Simons five, Deines four, and Josie Peterson two.

In a game played earlier in the week on the road, Wakefield defeated Centre, 41-28. Centre also lost to Solomon.

The junior varsity was defeated by Solomon in two quarters, 13-12, and by Lebo in three quarters, 34-10.
