The Centre High School Cougars won one game and lost two in the CHS mid-season invitational basketball tournament, finishing in sixth place.
They had their best game Friday against Elyria Christian, winning 53-42. Ty Simons led the way with 21 points, followed by Justin Deines with 19.
The Cougars trailed 6-10, after one quarter but outscored Elyria 19-11 in the second quarter to take a 25-21 lead at halftime.
A 12-5 third quarter proved deadly for Elyria. After a 16-16 scoring tie in the fourth quarter, Centre walked away with an 11-point victory.
Peabody-Burns
The Cougars lost to Peabody- Burns, 53-17, Jan. 17 in the first round of the tournament. James Wyatt scored 7 points; Simons, Deines, and Kyle Methvin, 4 each; Shane Methvin, 3; and Cory Brunzell, Kordell Harding, and Trevor Hageberg, 2 each.
Solomon
The Cougars played Solomon Saturday for fifth place. They were defeated, 68-33. Wyatt scored 12 points, followed by Deines, 7; Harding, 6; and Simons and Hageberg, 4 each.
Marion defeated Hope to win the tournament.
